the scene opens, the protagonist Princeton, who is a college graduate, is seen to be looking for a rented apartment, in New York City, to stay. Many neighbors of the Avenue Q is seen; Kate Monster a teacher, Nicky and Rod two roommates, Brian comedian Christmas Eve Brian’s fiancee,Jordan Retro 3, a therapist and Gary Coleman the superintendent of the Apartment,Jordan 3.
They were deciding who is the worst sufferer in life and Coleman was selected. Here Princeton arrives,Jordan Retro 3’88, takes an apartment and neighbors welcome him,Jordan Retro 1. In the meantime Princeton’s job has been eliminated and he goes on to search the purpose of life. He finds a penny made in his birth year and a lucky omen for him. In the play everyone elucidate their purpose of life. Kate thinking of opening school for monsters and to a query of Princeton she calls him a racist. In this all join for a song ‘everyone is a little bit racist’. Later on Princeton is persuaded by two teddy bears to spend the money he got from his parents.
Kate was notified by her boss Thistletwat to teach a morning class next day on a subject of her liking,Jordan Retro 13. She decides to teach about Internet. Trekkie Monster another character says that Internet teaches only pornography but Kate refutes. But unanimous opinion of all the people was that Internet is for porn. Princeton comes in and Kate realizes that he has a soft corner towards her,Jordan 1 Black Toe, when she is invited to the Around The Clock Cafe. Later on they all go to the cafe. Kate gets drunk and goes with Princeton to bed. Princeton gives her the lucky penny as a token of caring. Next day Kate misses the class and leaves before she is fired. Princeton offers her to be his girlfriend and both go to the wedding of Christmas Eve and Brian,Black Toe 1s. Nicky calls Rod as a closeted homosexual and is thrown out of the apartment by the later and Nicky goes begging,Jordan Retro 13. After seeing this Princeton is afraid of committing to Kate and she was hurt and defiant.
The second part of the play shows Princeton alone in his apartment and the neighbors take him out reminding “There is Life Outside Your Apartment”. In between different episode relating to characters are shown. Princeton struck with the idea of thinking about other people comes with a idea of raising money for Kate to open her school. They collect money and even ask the audience to donate. Trekkie Monster donates $10 million and that was a massive amount for the school. Kate was impressed with Princeton for making her dream come true. Princeton is worried that his purpose may not be accomplished but others encourage him saying life may be bad at the moment, but everything in life is only “For Now.”
Avenue Q imposingly discusses adult topics such as pornography, and homosexuality. The characters in the play use pervert and atrociously explicit language. The songs are based on adult themes. The central character’s search for a “purpose” is seen throughout the play.
