Towards a Pedagogy of Community Engagement: Planting TNT at the Atwater Library, by Ted Little

The Neighbourhood Theatre (TNT) is an interdisciplinary project led by Professor Ted Little that links teaching,abercrombie and fitch soldes, Theatre, Development and research. Ears Open Wide: A Radio Journalist’s Take on Collecting Oral History, by David Gutnick

Over the last twenty-five years David Gutnick has wandered the world with his microphone doing interviews and making radio documentaries for CBC radio,abercrombie moins cher. Unlike news reporters who spend much of their time chasing down experts and news makers who are used to speaking to reporters, David does the opposite, in that he speaks to people who are not in the spotlight,abercrombie pas cher. So is a radio journalist just collecting oral history and putting on the airwaves? What are the similarities between oral history and radio journalism,sweat abercrombie, what are the differences,sweat abercrombie? What are the techniques that David has developed that might be useful for people who are recording oral histories? What works, what does not? David will talk about the practical stuff – microphones and so on – as well the more esoteric stuff around how to get the best of a “difficult” story, a nervous person and so on. She is a specialist in gender and human rights and a professor in the department of journalism and mass communications at St. Xavier University. Ananya is also a member of Vikalp (an association of film-makers who are opposed to any form of censorship), IAWRT (International Association for Women in Radio and Television), NWMI (Network for Women in Media, India), Bengal Network and PIPFPD (Pakistan Indian People’s Forum for Peace and Democracy).

Traversing Tipologies of Chance: In-Situ and On Screen, by Tina Bastajian

This lecture presentation charts the processes, contingencies and adventitious detours from the project Coffee Deposits:::Topologies of Chance by artist and researcher Tina Bastajian US/NL, (in collaboration Seda Manavo NL/TR). DVD-ROM, web),ORAL HISTORY. The work explores a topology of spaces; unpredictable and rapidly shifting urban patterns, disparate stories and accounts by those who inhabit, walk, dwell, witness, work and protest in the city. The talk will also explore an iteration of the project, Pera pARkours (in beta), which uses augmented reality (AR) tactics to activate the archive of Topologies of Chance by revisiting a location in Istanbul Pera/Galata district that conjured intriguing forms of hybrid space.

This one-day event offers an opportunity to present work at any stage, to exchange ideas, and to connect with other researchers and creators.

We invite proposals that feature projects in oral, digital, or public history, broadly defined. Students in related fields, including museum studies, education,ORAL HISTORY, documentary filmmaking, memory studies, new media art, sociology, anthropology, and others, are encouraged to submit proposals.

Participants may present their work in a variety of formats, including papers, Power Point, web sites, films, artworks, interactive workshops, or mobile apps. Each presentation will be limited to 15 minutes, followed by time for questions and discussion. The symposium is bilingual; presentations may be in French or English.
