1918 BMW made airplane engines, but following WWI they decided to turn their attentions to manufacturing motorcycles.
Just a few years later from 1928-1929, they began to take on the car industry, designing cars like the Dixi 3-15 DA which was one of the first cars to come off their production line.

Efficiency is something that BMW has actively developed and promoted within the industry. The company is a charter member of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and it is also part of a program called the South Carolina Environmental Excellence Program.
